The Canon EOS 60D is a camera designed squarely for the mid-range photographer. If you now know what you’re doing and can take decent photos but don’t need high-end professional features, this camera is perfect. Whether you like to document your travels, weekends, good times or just landscapes, the EOS 60D can do it all. The launch of this camera was surrounded by much debate about it’s features, but over time it has proven to be a winner.
Canon EOS 60D 18-55 IS Kit not only provides with a digital single-lens camera EOS 60D but also includes Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens, which uses an optical image stabilizer to cut down blurring related with the motion of a camera at the exposure time. The image stabilization lets the photographer to use the shutter speed up to 4 stops slower then non-stabilized lenses.
This is a smallish camera when compared to others in the Canon range and lighter too. This is probably due to the lightweight glass fiber body coupled with an aluminum chassis (it weighs only 25 pounds), making it very easy to maneuver.
Here are some of Canon EOS 60D key features:
- 18MP CMOS sensor.
- DIGIC 4 image processor.
- 100 – 6400 ISO.
- 1080p video recording.
- 63-zone exposure system.
- 7.5 X optical zoom using 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS lens.
The Canon EOS 60D also uses a clever system of dedicated buttons for specific functions that takes a bit of getting used to in the beginning, but really speeds up one’s workflow considerably once you are comfortable. Compared to the Canon EOS 50D the controls have been simplified somewhat with most buttons having a single function instead of two, which is a most welcome move. The Quick Control makes selecting your most commonly-used ones a breeze.
The auto focus is incredibly fast making it ideal for fast action such as sports or nature shots. It can handle continuous shooting at up to 5.3 frames per second and it takes a mere second to power up which can be a great ally if you need to capture an unexpected shot. It can capture full-HD video (1080p) at 24, 25, 30 frames per second, while at 720p/SD or VGA it can handle 50 or 60 frames per second.
The superb sensor and processor combine to produce excellent, highly-detailed images with great color reproduction even in the lowest light conditions around. Canon’s excellent metering and exposure system makes shooting in conditions with extreme lighting changes a breeze – something that most DSLR’s fail at miserably. Overall it creates incredibly detailed and fine images. In the camera’s menu system you can select RAW settings, metering modes, flash, ISO, AF, subject modes, creative filters and much more. The camera is packed with effects and filters and the changes can be seen instantly in the Live Viewer.
The water-resistant, anti-glare LCD display is really useful with a wide range of motion for any type of shot needed. The coverage of the viewfinder on the EOS 60D has been expanded to 96% too which makes composition much easier. It comes with an eye cup, strap, battery, charger, discs, instruction and how to manuals and the all various necessary cables. SD, SDHC, and SDXC are all accommodated for storage.
As a camera that combines stills and video with great usability and ultra-high-end features, the Canon EOS 60D is the perfect choice for avid or semi-pro photographers. It’s well-designed, has great features and not too expensive. Of course, there are chaper DSLR cameras but the EOS 60D has higher quality features.
